There’s a song in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, one of my favorite movies of all time, called Origin of Love. It is beautiful and makes me cry every time I hear it.
It’s a story about how love was created. The story goes like this:
Long ago, when the earth was young, the population consisted of 3 sexes: the children of the sun (2 women joined together), the children of the earth (two men joined together), and the children of the moon (a woman and a man joined together).
As we became stronger and more defiant, the gods became scared. Zeus cut everyone in half with his lightning bolt as punishment. Then the Egyptian gods created a magnificent storm and scattered us via wind and water.
So we look for our other half, the one who has the same pain inside their soul. And when we find him or her, we make love in an attempt to put ourselves back together.
I’m a broken child of the moon on a quest to find my other half.
